Everyday ways to save

Monday, 8 June 2009 13:58 by Andy M

Saving money is hard and saving money out of your budget when the cost of what you have to buy keeps going up is even harder.  Sometimes though, it is best to look for many small, incremental changes versus one big change.  The one big change is usually not that probable.  So, here are a few ideas to save everyday in a few important areas…

Food Shopping

·         Scour newspapers, grocery store websites, product websites and the backs of receipts for coupons

·         Always shop on triple coupon days if your grocery store offers those days.

·         Stock up when your favorite foods are on sale and always look at the top and bottom shelves for the lower priced alternatives to the food that is at eye level.

Transportation

·         Keep your vehicle tuned properly and always check tire pressure to maximum fuel efficiency.

·         Every nth time wash and wax your car instead of using the car wash every time you wash your car.

Finances

·         Take advantage of tax savings through work plans such as Health Savings Accounts, Flexible Spending Accounts and Childcare reimbursement accounts.

·         Pay off your higher interest rate loans and credit cards first by making more than the minimum payment.  Avoid adding balances to the high rate credit cards.

·         Take advantage of 0% interest deals when purchasing new appliances and furniture but be sure to pay the loan off before the free interest deal is up or you will be responsible for all the interest.

Personal Care

·         Check your salon or barber rates to make sure that you are getting the value for your dollar.

·         Exercise, at home or the gym, to stay healthy and avoid costly medical expenses and time away from work.

These are just a few everyday ways to save that might not be that difficult to make part of your lifestyle and don’t require a big change on your part.
